The Russian armored reconnaissance vehicle BRDM-2
The BRDM-2 is a Russian armored reconnaissance vehicle. It was developed in the beginning of the 1950s by the Gorkï construction firm. The BRDM-2 was put into service in 1962.
The BRDM-2 is developed to replace the BRDM-1 within recon units. Its weapons are composed of; a KPVT 14.5mm heavy machine gun and a coaxial PKT 7.62mm machine gun, identical to the Russian BTR-60 Armored Personnel Carrier.
The BRDM-2 has 2 retractable wheels on each side. Deployed hydraulically they allow for an 8×8 mode, enhancing off-road capabilities. The powertrain is installed in the rear of the vehicle. The BRDM-2 has amphibious capabilities. It is used within the armed forces in over 50 countries throughout the world.
