The French Foreign Legion under new command
The Division General Jean MAURIN has taken over command of
the French Foreign Legion.
On the 1st of August 2014, the Division General Jean MAURIN has taken over command of the French Foreign Legion. He has replaced the former commander, Division General Christophe de SAINT CHAMAS.
The General Maurin has had a long career within the French Foreign Legion; he has commanded a section of volunteer recruits at the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), a company in the 2nd Foreign Paratrooper Regiment (2e REP) and the 13th Demi-Brigade of the French Foreign Legion in Djibouti (13e DBLE). Since the 1st of September 2012 he has held the function of Assistant Chief to the Deputy Chief of international relations within the Defense staff headquarters.
The General de Saint Chamas, who was at the head of the French Foreign Legion for three years, in reading his daily orders, declared “…I weigh with humble reconnaissance what the Legionnaires, of all different ranks, have given to me over these years and I thank them all from the bottom of my heart…”.
