The Turkish main battle tank Altay
The Altay is a Turkish main battle tank project. It is in development since 2007 by Otokar, in collaboration with South Koreas Rotem. The first prototypes started testing at the end of 2012. It is scheduled to enter active service in 2017.
The Altray tank has a classic occidental battle tank configuration with four crew members, manual canon loading, powertrain in the rear and the pilot in the front of the hull. It is the first nationally developed tank. The initial order was for 250 units whereas a total of a 1000 units are required.
