The Challenger 2 is a British main battle tank. It was developed in the 90s by Vickers Defense Systems based upon the Challenger 1. It was put into service in 1998.
The Challenger 2 has classic occidental architecture. It is armed with a L30A1 55 caliber canon, its rifled bore allows for great firing precision. Its ammunition is not compatible with NATO standard 120mm shells.
Composite and additional reactive armor plating allow for high levels of protection. The Challenger 2 is the main tank used within the British army. It participated in operations in Kosovo and Iraq.
