M60
The American main battle tank M60
The M60 is an American main battle tank. It was developed in the 50s by Detroit Arsenal. The M60 was put into service in 1960.
The M60 is armed with the M68 rifled cannon of 105 mm with a length of 52 calibers derived from the British L7 cannon.
The M60 followed several modernization campaigns. The M60A1 was put into service in 1962. The M60A2, developed in 1970, was equipped with a new turret armed with the 152 mm M162 gun capable of firing Shillelagh anti-tank missiles. The M60A3 entered service in 1975.
The M60 was very widely exported around the world. It is still in service with several armed forces. Within the United States Armed Forces, the M60 has been entirely replaced by the M1 Abrams.
